Like any other Greek town, there is plenty of history everywhere you turn in Larnaca. There are ancient ruins and religious sites to explore, along with the beautiful beach. All in all, Larnaca is a relaxing town, one that can be explored easily by foot, and enjoyed by all.
The religious sites in Larnaca are both beautiful and interesting. Visit Ayios Lazarus, or the Church of St. Lazarus. It is widely believed that the church is built around the tomb of Lazarus, the man who resurrected Jesus.
Hala Sultan Tekke is another religious site not to be missed. The mosque, located next to the Salt Lake, is thought to contain the tomb of Umm Haram, the foster mother of Mohammed.
Take a stroll around the scenic Larnaca Salt Lake. From November through March of each year, hundreds of pink flamingoes flock to the lake. It is quite a sight to behold. Walk along its banks and enjoy the nearby nature trail.
The ruins of Ancinet Kition, dating back to 7,000 B.C. are fascinating to explore. And don’t miss the Neolithic site of Choirokoitia.
Avid divers come to Larnaca to explore the wreck of the Zenobia, a ferry that sunk into the sea on her maiden voyage in 1980.
There is, of course, the beautiful beach along which Larnaca resides. Relax on the sand and enjoy the sounds of the Mediterranean lapping along the shore.
